Arkadi’s Journey with Cavernoma
Life often takes us down unexpected paths, leading us to discover strengths we never knew we had. This is my journey—a story of resilience and personal growth that I hope resonates with others facing their own challenges.
It was the year 2019 when my life took an unexpected turn. I was diagnosed with a rare and life-threatening condition called brainstem cavernoma. For over two and a half years, I suffered multiple cavernoma bleeds: these episodes compromised my ability to walk and to feel my body, preventing me from being able to live independently.
The mental pain I endured was just as hard as the physical pain - my life was disrupted, and my future uncertain. Each of the cavernoma bleeds I fought reminded me of life's fragility, and this sparked a deep inner strength - a resilience I never knew I had. I refused to let this diagnosis define me. My life stopped being about mere survival; instead, it became a journey of discovering the profound connection between mind, body, and spirit.
Everything changed in 2021, when I underwent brain surgery to remove the cavernoma. That pivotal moment was more than just a medical victory—it was a personal awakening. When I woke up, my purpose became clear: to create the best life for myself and build a great family. That’s what drives me every day.
I hope that by sharing my story, I can inspire others who are navigating their own challenges. Life may not always go as planned, but each obstacle can teach us valuable lessons about resilience and hope. I am thankful for the support I’ve received along the way.
Over two and a half years, I dealt with frequent bleeds that affected various parts of my body, sometimes causing numbness in my hand, face, or legs. Simple tasks like walking, speaking, and even eating became challenging. The unpredictability of these symptoms brought on anxiety, making each day a test of both physical and mental endurance.
The Emotional Impact
Some relationships drifted, but family and lifelong friends became my foundation. I realized how important it is to surround myself with supportive, health-conscious people and maintain a balance between mind, body, and soul.
In August 2021, a severe bleed opened the door for surgery. I decided to trust my medical team and walked into the operating room with a clear mind, saying, "Piece of cake!" Thankfully, the surgery was a success, and the cavernoma was removed.
Unexpected Setback (2022)
For the first few months, everything seemed fine, but I later found out that the surgical plate covering the hole in my skull was bent. I’m not sure how or when it happened—maybe I did something unknowingly—but somehow it got damaged. About 10 months after the initial surgery, I had to undergo another operation to remove and replace the plate, which, fortunately, was a success as well :)
Since then, I’ve focused on healing through neuroplasticity, knowing that my recovery depends on my effort. But this journey hasn’t only been physical—it has also led to profound spiritual growth. I’ve deepened my connection with my mind, body, and soul, gaining new awareness of who I am and what matters most. With each day, I continue to grow, embracing life with gratitude, motivation, and joy, and appreciating every moment as an opportunity to thrive and become the best version of myself.
